Certified Eating Disorders Specialist & Supervisor

Westminster Office & Virtual

Introduction

As the Founder and CEO, my job is to ensure ARMH is serving its clients, its employees, and the community by providing exceptional mental health care to clients in Colorado and nationwide. My job is to create supportive, family-friendly jobs for staff and to build training opportunities for future clinicians who are passionate about social justice. Day-to-day, I oversee the business operations and work with the clinical and executive leadership team members. I combine my training as a psychologist with my business expertise in service of ARMH’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

I am a Licensed Psychologist in Colorado and hold the PSYPACT credential to practice in participating states nationwide. I am also a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) and CEDS Approved Supervisor through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp). My podcast, The Eating Disorder Recovery Podcast, discusses the latest information about eating disorder recovery including how to recover from disordered eating, make peace with food, improve body image, and heal your relationship with yourself. The podcast showcases top leaders in the field and reaches people in over 100 countries worldwide. You can find my books, Recover Your Perspective and the corresponding Meditations for Eating Disorder Recovery on my Amazon Author Page. I am more than 15 years fully recovered from an eating disorder and believe that recovery is possible for all people.

Education & Training

I am a Licensed Psychologist who has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders since 2008. I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Colorado State University and completed my Doctoral Psychology Internship at the University of California, Davis in the Eating Disorder Emphasis Program.

Following the completion of my Ph.D., I founded ARMH, working as a solo provider until 2016 when Dr. Lauren Millard became the first team member. The organization has steadily expanded since that time to our current team size. To best serve ARMH and my team, I returned to graduate school at the University of Colorado, Boulder where I earned my MS in Organizational Leadership. Additionally, I completed my certification for Women in Leadership from Cornell University. I am passionate about serving others through clinical work and business.

  • Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, Colorado State University (APA Accredited Program)
  • M.S. in Organizational Leadership (MSOL), University of Colorado, Boulder
  • Women in Leadership Certificate, Cornell University
  • Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS), International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp)
  • Certified Eating Disorders Specialist Approved Supervisor (CEDS-S), International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp)

  • M.S. in Counseling Psychology, Colorado State University (APA Accredited Program)
  • B.S. in Psychology, Colorado State University, graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors

    Approach to Clinical Work

I view mental health care as an opportunity for self-exploration and growth as part of our overall well-being. My work is integrative, drawing from several types of therapy. Primarily, I think of our behaviors as the result of things we learned in our relationships (Interpersonal) and from our context within systems of power, privilege, and oppression (Feminist). I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for skills-based work when needed.

I work to empower clients to create meaningful change in their lives by building skills, using self-advocacy, and challenging oppressive systems. I use insight-oriented approaches to get to the root of what caused their concerns and what continues to maintain patterns that are no longer serving them.

Sitting in the chair across from me, you’ll find that I’m a relatable, honest person. My style is compassionate and warm, and embraces candor and humor.

    Personal

I grew up in Colorado and feel lucky to call this beautiful state home. When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, catching a Rockies game, tending to my houseplants, trying my hand at art projects, especially painting, and spending time outdoors with plenty of SPF doing easy-to-moderate activities. Most importantly, I spend time with the people I love.

    Introduction

I am a licensed psychologist offering individual psychotherapy to adolescents and adults. I have experience working with a variety of mental health concerns including eating disorders, anxiety, depression, women’s issues, chronic pain, life transitions and grief. Through a foundation of trust, safety and respect, I help individuals find alignment within their lives, and develop a greater, more compassionate sense of self.

    Education & Training

I completed my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL. I completed my predoctoral internship at Aspire Indiana Health. I have worked in a variety of settings from inpatient hospitals, partial hospitalization, private practice and primary care clinics with a specialization in eating disorder treatment.

    • Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (APA accredited program)
    • Predoctoral Internship Aspire Indiana Health (APA accredited doctoral internship)
    • M.A. in Clinical Psychology, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (APA accredited program)
    • B.A. in Psychology and Recreation and Tourism, Colorado State University

    Approach to Clinical Work

I provide a safe and judgement-free space which allows individuals to show up authentically, to cultivate a deeper sense of self and agency. I believe that our current functioning and the way we navigate life is a direct reflection of past relational experiences with ourselves, family, friends and our community. These unique experiences helped shaped our behavior and approach to life in ways that may no longer be effective or helpful. During our time together, we will work to identify patterns and behaviors in your relationships with yourself and others that are no longer serving you. In exchange, we will increase your ability to cope with all emotions, establish healthy, mutually beneficial relationships and develop new behaviors to effectively create long lasting change.

    Personal

Most days, you can find me trying out a new recipe or restaurant, walking the trails with my son and chocolate lab, or cuddling with my bunny. I am never more than 3 feet from a cozy blanket and get real excited about any project that includes organizing and color coding.

    Approach to Clinical Work

I utilize a person-centered approach in therapy and value my clients’ autonomy and expertise in their own lives. In order to achieve this, I integrate various approaches within therapy including psychodynamic, interpersonal, internal family systems, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness-based interventions.

    Personal

I value time spent in nature, as well as creative expression through art and writing. Some days I find myself being active by hiking or exploring the city with my dog, Carl. On other days I enjoy the laziness of lounging around with a book, jigsaw puzzle, or a good tv show.

    Approach to Clinical Work

I take a holistic approach to psychotherapy to help my clients meet their goals and improve their overall sense of well-being.  I integrate various therapies into my clinical work.  Overall, I believe our functioning is the result of messages, both direct and indirect, we have received in our personal relationships (Interpersonal) as well as our society and culture in which we have been socialized (Feminist).  I also embrace mindfulness-based therapies, including DBT and ACT.

I aim to create a safe, nonjudgmental, and compassionate space to collaborate with my clients in exploring their emotions in a more genuine way in order to develop awareness and insight regarding their functioning and they they want to grow.  My hope is that my clients will feel more empowered to function in their environment more effectively and authentically.

I hope to create a warm and safe environment where my clients feel comfortable sharing their stories.

I use a person-centered approach to therapy, which means I treat every client with empathy, unconditional positive regard, and respect. Licensed Professional Counselor

    Westminster Office

    Introduction

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado State offering individual psychotherapy to adults. I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders, PTSD, and OCD and have experience working with anxiety, depression, grief, relationship conflicts, and ADHD. I am queer and non-binary and enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ community.

As a white, European-American, I also ground myself in practices of cultural humility to offer a therapy setting that is affirming of clients of other races and ethnicities. I bring a warm, curious, and compassionate energy to psychotherapy, fostering a space where clients can be brave and vulnerable in pursuing their inner work. I try to minimize the power differential between provider and client through deep listening, receptivity to feedback, and empowering clients to recognize and embrace their inherent wisdom.

    Education & Training

I completed my Master of Science in Nutrition & Clinical Health Psychology in 2019 at Bastyr University, a school for natural medicine in Kenmore, WA. After receiving my associate license, I practiced therapy at a community mental health agency in Seattle, WA that focused on serving lower-income, LGBTQIA+ adults. From there, I went on to work at a group private practice in Tacoma, WA that treated eating disorders from a Health at Every Size and anti-oppression lens. Most recently, I worked as a primary therapist at Eating Recovery Center Denver in an inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization unit for children and adolescents. I have primarily received training in the following therapeutic modalities: Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

    • M.S. in Nutrition & Clinical Health Psychology, Bastyr University
    • B.A. in Religious Studies, Oberlin College, graduated with High Honors

    Approach to Clinical Work

I aim to bring a spirit of open-mindedness, lightheartedness, and collaboration to the therapeutic relationship. I seek to provide gentle guidance to clients to help them move into discomfort, expand their insight, and discover previously untapped strength and resources, while also respecting each person’s unique process and pacing. I have a holistic approach, taking into consideration the mind, body, and spirit, as integral to healing.

I primarily use Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy in my counseling practice, engaging the intrinsic healing power of our Self to allow injured and protective parts to be unburdened and liberated from their habitual roles. I integrate IFS with somatic therapy, encouraging clients to develop a more attuned relationship with their body and to allow felt sensation to direct their internal work. I also strive to bring a non-stigmatizing attitude to mental health care and encourage clients to notice the ways in which the harmful and hierarchical systems we live in contribute to our experience of suffering. I use my nutrition education and training to support clients in cultivating an intuitive relationship with food, rest, and other forms of nourishment. In addition, I am a long-time practitioner of mindfulness-based practices and offer these skills to clients from a trauma-informed lens.

    Personal

I was born and grew up in Boulder, Colorado. After several long hiatuses away for school and work, I am grateful to finally be back and putting down roots in my home state. I also love cooking, reading, hiking, singing, playing the violin, listening to music, meditating, and spending time in spiritual/religious community.

    • Predoctoral Internship, Arizona State University (APA accredited)
    • M.S. in Counseling Psychology, Iowa State University
    • B.S. in Psychology, Colorado State University

    Approach to Clinical Work

Empirical research has provided a clear message: therapy is most effective when it emphasizes a strong, understanding, and collaborative therapeutic relationship. By centering on each client’s unique experience, we find sustainable ways to implement change.

My therapeutic style is integrative and flexible. I primarily work from an emotion-focused and existential lens which connects past traumas to current patterns, addresses underlying needs, and fosters hope. Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), we can better manage symptoms and move towards goals. This integrative approach allows client-driven movement between self-exploration, emotional processing, and challenge.

    Introduction

Hello! My name is Megan and here are a few things you should know about me. I pride myself on creating an accepting, understanding, and authentic environment for my clients. I am not afraid to admit I was wrong and am always welcoming of any and all feedback. My passion for therapy stems from my own experience with counselors and how they have helped me process trauma, navigate depression, overcome my eating disorder, and understand my anxiety. I want to utilize my first hand experience to help my clients heal from their own struggles.

    Education & Training

I graduated from Northwestern’s Mental Health Counseling program in March of 2023 with a specialized in child and adolescent therapy. I worked with children, adolescents, young adults, couples, and families while in internship. Throughout my graduate program I have worked with several clients struggling with eating disorders.

    • M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University
    • B.S. in Applied Psychology from Ithaca College

      Approach to Clinical Work

My personal approach to counseling is founded on the idea that therapy should be centered around the clients goals, needs, and over all wellbeing. Because of this belief, I gravitate towards a more person-centered theoretical approach. I create a safe and trusting environment for clients by utilizing a more laid back and personable approach. I encourage my clients to view the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative process, working together as a team to address their presenting concerns.

      Personal

I was born and raised in Seattle, WA and have loved the outdoors since I was a child. From hiking to horseback riding I always have fun getting a little dirty in the sun. Introduction

Howdy! I’m Sara and I’m a Postgraduate Master’s Resident offering therapy to folks of all ages (kiddos, teens, and adults). Prior to my work here at ARMH, I worked with individuals experiencing and moving through domestic and intimate partner violence. I am experienced in supporting clients struggling with trauma & PTSD, depression, anxiety & panic, body image issues & disordered eating, and women’s issues. I am deeply curious about my clients’ complex and rich life experiences, and am passionate about creating therapeutic relationships that empower my clients to get in touch with their own innate resiliency.

      Education & Training

I have a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Denver, where I also earned a certificate in Human-Animal-Environment-Interactions in Social Work. During my time in graduate school, I worked at a family resource center providing advocacy to folks impacted by the Marshall Fires. I then went on to work for a domestic violence agency where I provided individual trauma therapy. I am trained in nonviolent communication and cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as in nature-based and animal-assisted interventions.

      • MSW (Master’s in Social Work) with a certificate in Human-Animal Environment-Interactions in Social Work, University of Denver
      • B.A. in Art History & Studio Art, University of Virginia

      Approach to Clinical Work

As a highly sensitive person, I find true joy in thoughtfully helping clients explore their emotional intricacies as they make their way in this often over-stimulating world. I love incorporating non-traditional modalities into my work, such as art, play, dream exploration, and time spent in nature. Therapy is a collaborative and creative journey that takes courage and patience. I am honored to walk alongside my clients as they embark on this path, offering my support, compassion, and curiosity as they navigate the challenges and celebrate the victories on the way home toward their authentic selves.

      Personal

I moved to Colorado in 2020 from Virginia, and though I love the sunshine and the Rocky Mountains, part of my heart will always be in the Shenandoah and with the rich green and blue hues of the woods back east. I love to recharge by being alone, whether that’s time spent immersing myself in nature, at the pottery wheel, tinkering with one of my many unfinished paintings, baking cookies, or snuggled up under a soft blanket with my tabby cat Apollo and a good book.

      Postgraduate Master’s Resident

      Westminster Office

      Introduction

I am a Postgraduate Master’s Resident serving adults and couples with various concerns, including relationship distress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, ADHD, and life transitions. I integrate attachment-based psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral approaches to build a strong therapeutic relationship while helping clients evoke change. My journey in healing childhood trauma and relationship wounds drew me to the mental health field, where I continue to feel the love and support that promotes growth, well-being, and stronger, healthier communities. As a trauma survivor and counselor, I offer clients compassion and acceptance to increase their autonomy, better their relationships, and engage in meaningful activities. I believe my life experiences and roles as a wife, mother, daughter, parental caretaker, and former journalist allow me to make deep connections and form meaningful therapeutic relationships that foster transformation.

      Education & Training

I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Regis University. During my program, I interned at community and private practice settings serving adults, adolescents, children, and couples while pursuing extensive couples and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) training. I am trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Level 1 and 2. Additionally, I completed an Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) externship and multiple courses through the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, including CBT Essentials, CBT for Anxiety, Depression, Personality Disorders, Suicide Prevention, and Mindfulness.

      • M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Regis University
      • B.A. in English, University of Colorado Boulder
      • B.S. in Journalism/News Editorial, University of Colorado Boulder

      Approach to Clinical Work

I believe you are the expert of your experience. I respect the unique qualities and challenges individuals and couples bring to counseling and encourage openness, acceptance, and creative problem-solving when addressing mental health and relationship issues. My priority is building a secure therapeutic bond where clients feel safe to explore their inner world, emotional experiences, and problematic thinking, behavioral, and interactional patterns. Therapy is a collaborative healing process, and as your secure base, guide, and companion, I offer empathy, validation, and attunement throughout the journey.

I integrate Attachment Theory, CBT, and Mindfulness approaches when working with individuals and couples. In Attachment Theory, early attachment styles are explored and identified to break unhealthy patterns and build or rebuild trusting, supporting relationships. I often use this approach to address childhood trauma, relationship distress, and other painful experiences that prevent healthy connections.

When addressing disorders like anxiety and depression, I utilize CBT techniques and psychoeducation to help clients identify unhelpful thoughts and create new ways of thinking and acting to improve their mood and behavior. This more directive approach effectively reduces troubling symptoms and teaches better management of problems.

Mindfulness is another effective technique I use to help clients change how they relate to their thoughts and internal dialogue. Clients are encouraged to approach their difficult thoughts and feelings with curiosity and acceptance rather than avoidance to discover new coping options and resolve issues. Practicing Mindfulness is also a part of my daily routine.

      • M.S. in Sport Psychology, Florida State University
      • B.A. in Psychology, San Diego State University

      Approach to Clinical Work

Foundational to my work with every client is establishing a strong, collaborative relationship built on trust and understanding. My passion, what brings me joy, is helping clients build that same trusting relationship with the various parts of their identity as the beginning of leading a healthy and adaptive life.

My approach to clinical work integrates developmental, systems, and dynamic perspectives; understanding how the distress, dissatisfaction, or fulfillment we experience in the present is continuously contributed to by our biology, relationships, and past lived-experiences. I believe that a greater understanding of these dynamics is important in developing an honest and unbiased perspective on our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. With this self-knowledge, we can seize opportunities to disrupt maladaptive, unproductive, or harmful patterns (or cycles) of behavior and begin to foster, or continue fostering, a healthier, resilient, and adaptive Self.

      Personal

I was born and raised in Southern California and developed a love of all things nature-bound by hiking and backpacking my way through the various California forests and mountains. For the last 7 years, I have called the mossy oak landscapes of north Florida home. When I am not working, I am curled up on a couch with my partner and 6 pets (2 dogs, 4 cats), reading or watching tv. The theme of our home is, and always will be, cozy-vibes!

As the Billing and Credentialing Specialist, I work mainly on the backend setting up and managing revenue cycle processes with insurance companies in order to accept a wide variety of funding and best serve our diverse clientele. Guiding individuals and families to better understand and properly navigate public and private funding has become a second language to me and I am passionate about assisting others for the sake of wellness.
