Approach to Therapy

I view psychotherapy as an opportunity for self-exploration and growth as a part of overall health.  My work is integrative, drawing from several types of therapy.  Primarily, I think of our behaviors as the result of things we learned in our relationships (Interpersonal).  I also incorporate therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

I work to empower clients to create change in their lives by helping them build skills to solve their problems while using insight-oriented therapy to examine deeper emotions and patterns that caused and maintains the pattern they are working on.

Sitting in the chair across from me, you’ll find that I’m a relatable, honest person.  My style is very compassionate and warm and embraces candor and humor.

I grew up in beautiful Colorado and feel lucky to call Colorado home.  When I'm not working, I enjoy getting my hands on as many books as I can, catching a Rockies game, trying my hand at painting, and spending time outdoors.  Most importantly, I spend time with my loved ones, including my Golden Retriever and cats.

Bert Pace Psy.D. Licensed Psychologist, Coordinator of Testing Services

I am a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of chronic depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, eating disorders, and general mental health issues. I know first-hand that starting therapy can be intimidating and that finding a therapist who you feel comfortable with is essential. I work hard to offer a warm and therapeutic environment that is built on offering compassion and understanding to those I work with.

Education & Training

I received my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. Throughout my training, I worked in a variety of settings including community mental health clinics, university clinics, schools, and hospitals. I completed my predoctoral internship at Biola Counseling Center in Los Angeles, California.

  • Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology, George Fox University, Program Accredited by the American Psychological Association

  • Doctoral Psychology Internship, Biola Counseling Center, APA Accredited Doctoral Internship

  • M.A. in Clinical Psychology, George Fox University, APA Accredited Program

  • B.S. in Psychology, Colorado State University

Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy is psychodynamic. This means that I believe the root of most people's struggles to be their early relationships and experiences. I find that these relationships and experiences have a profound impact on the ways in which people think and behave, the range and the type of emotions they feel, and the patterns of relationships they form. In therapy I work to help grow a deeper understanding of how they have gotten where they are, while focusing on tangible ways they can make changes.

Although my primary clinical orientation is psychodynamic, I am trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques. I work to integrate varying treatment approaches as needed, in order to best meet the needs of those I work with.

Therapy can be both incredibly relieving and challenging, often at the same time. Because therapy is not always easy, I work hard to provide a supportive environment to each and every person I work with.

Following my training in Oregon and California, I am happy to be back in my home state of Colorado. Having grown up in Colorado, I love the outdoors. In my free time I enjoy walks/hikes with my family, fishing, woodworking, and playing lacrosse.

Approach to Therapy

I take an integrative approach to therapy, combining aspects of interpersonal and humanistic frameworks.  I treat clients with genuine warmth and positive regard, while understanding their current real-life situations, personal strengths and areas for growth.  I believe positive change is directly related to the client-therapist relationship and thus take great care in cultivating collaborative and compassionate relationships in therapy.

I believe that each individual's unique sense of self is defined by a multitude of factors, including early experiences, ethnic background, religious beliefs, sexuality, and experience of gender.  Therefore, I am passionate about creating a safe, judgement-free environment where people of all backgrounds feel comfortable to explore issues which brought them to therapy.

After receiving the majority of my clinical training in New York City, I am fulfilling a life long dream of relocating to the Denver area!  I find that my heart is happier in the mountains and am thrilled to be working with the incredible professionals at CTAC.  In my free time I enjoy hiking, snowboarding, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
